The Savanna recently launched its own biltong brand called M-EAT! You can try our M-EAT! biltong at any Savanna outlet, including key stores such as Liverpool Station, London Bridge Station, and Victoria Station. With these busy stations boasting hundreds of millions of passengers a year, awareness for our biltong is growing fast. The Savanna estimates about a third of its 15,000 customers per week are now British locals, and this mix has grown following the World Cup in South Africa last year.
Lisa Gardshol, Managing Director of The Savanna says "we started our family business seven years ago primarily serving ex-pats in London, but we've seen a growing shift in our customer base following the World Cup. Over a third of our sales are now coming from British customers' country wide becoming addicted to our biltong and drywors. There's even a growing contingent from the British army stationed in Afghanistan regularly ordering biltong from us. It's a great compliment".
The Savanna is sourcing its beef from premium UK farms. Their beef biltong is made using Aberdeen Angus silversides, from grass fed bulls in the Cairngorm mountains, extra matured for excellent texture and flavour. The biltong is hand cut by our butchers in Wimbledon, and after being slow dried for 4 days, is ready to eat.
Much of the success for our biltong is down to our experienced butchers, Darren and Andrew, who run our purpose built butchery, collectively boasting over 35 years in the meat trade. Together with Jonathan, David and the rest of the team they have developed a delicious range of meat products. With these products growing sharply through our Savanna stores, the next stage is for our M-EAT! brand to develop into wider retail channels.
