SAvanna has been making hand-cut biltong and drywors in the UK for almost five years now. We only make for our own shops, so you won't find our biltong in other retail outlets. Much of our expansion is down to the reputation of our biltong and drywors. There's no secret sauce in making good quality biltong, you simply need to use good quality beef and have an eye for detail: too many people get poor results by cutting corners. Our beef is sourced locally, low-fat and tender. You can be assured we do not use offcuts for our biltong, no sinew, just cured strips of meat, spiced the right way and aired in our commercial dryers to give us consistent results.

Let's face it, biltong took time to catch on in UK. Considering it was first developed during the middle-ages (by the culinary elite French) and exported to South Africa by the Dutch 400 years ago, the Brits did not really join the biltong party until London began swarming with ex-pat Saffas in the past decade. Thanks to the skills of Savanna’s top butchers here in London, the popularity of our biltong is growing fast: locals are reacting well to our delicious snack, and so they should.

Biltong is gaining popularity as a nutritious source of low-fat protein. Results have shown that 100g of biltong will typically offer around 65g of protein and less than 2% fat, making it an ideal post exercise recovery snack. Biltong is also great as an addition to salads or a filling for sandwiches.
